What It Is:

The All About Me Developmental Assessment Check-Up is a fun, engaging, and child-friendly screening designed for preschoolers aged 3–5. A trained clinical evaluator in psychology visits your preschool or daycare to observe and assess each child’s key stages of development . This valuable check-up helps educators and families better understand each child’s strengths and identify any areas that may benefit from support—making it easier to catch early delays and provide timely interventions when needed.

How It Works: 

• A trained Kidz Mpowerd clinical consultant with expertise in child development visits your child’s preschool or daycare to observe and assess key developmental milestones.

• Fun, play-based activities to assess your child’s current strengths and identify developmental areas where extra support might be helpful.

What We Assess:

Cognitive Development

Cognitive development refers to a child’s ability to think, learn, reason, solve problems, and understand the world around them. Assessing this domain helps identify learning strengths, curiosity, problem-solving abilities, and visual-spatial skills—key foundations for academic success and everyday independence.

How this is assessed:
This domain is evaluated using a standardized psychometric assessment presented in a play-based manner. Children may work with blocks, answer age-appropriate questions, look at pictures, and complete memory and problem-solving tasks.

Gross Motor Skills

Gross motor skills involve large muscle movements such as running, jumping, climbing, balancing, and coordination. Strong gross motor skills support physical health, confidence in movement, and participation in play and daily activities.

How this is assessed:
Through parent questionnaires and clinical observation during play-based activities.

Fine Motor Skills

Fine motor skills involve small, precise movements such as grasping, drawing, cutting, and manipulating objects. These skills are essential for daily living tasks, school readiness, writing, and independence.

How this is assessed:
Through observation and standardized psychometric tasks, including copying shapes and manipulating objects.

Social & Emotional Development

Social-emotional development includes a child’s ability to interact with others, manage emotions, cooperate, share, take turns, and demonstrate empathy. These skills are essential for forming relationships, adapting to new environments, and developing emotional regulation.

How this is assessed:
Through parent questionnaires and direct observation during play and interaction

Communication & Language Development

Language development includes both receptive language (understanding) and expressive language (speaking). Effective communication supports learning, social interaction, and the ability to express needs, thoughts, and emotions.

How this is assessed:
Through parent questionnaires and observation during structured and natural conversations with the child.

Attention

Attentional functioning examines focus, distractibility, task persistence, task-switching, and visual attention. Understanding attention patterns helps identify how a child engages with tasks and activities.

How this is assessed:
Through parent questionnaires and clinical observation during activities and conversation.

Adaptive Functioning

Adaptive functioning refers to a child’s ability to manage everyday life skills such as dressing, feeding, hygiene, following routines, and adapting to changes. This domain reflects practical independence and real-life functioning.

How this is assessed:
Through parent questionnaires and caregiver interviews.

Self-Concept

Self-concept involves how a child perceives themselves, including confidence, self-esteem, and self-belief. A healthy self-concept supports resilience, motivation, and positive social engagement.

How this is assessed:
Through clinical observation, and parent questionnaires.

Responsibility

Responsibility includes rule-following, helping with simple tasks, taking care of personal belongings, and beginning to contribute to daily routines and helping others.

How this is assessed:
Through parent questionnaires and observation during play and interaction.

Creativity & Imagination

Creativity and imagination reflect a child’s ability to invent, pretend, and explore ideas. These skills play an important role in cognitive flexibility, emotional expression, and problem-solving.

How this is assessed:
Through observation during creative and imaginative play, along with parent questionnaires.

What are the different types of assessment offered?

  • The Standard Assessment offers a brief but meaningful overview of your child’s development in key areas such as thinking skills, emotional and social functioning, and motor abilities. It includes both parent questionnaires and a play-based, 1.5h in-person session with your child. Following the visit, parents receive a written summary outlining the results and general recommendations to help support your child’s development at home or in early childhood settings

  • The Comprehensive Assessment offers a detailed look at your child’s development across a wide range of areas, including thinking skills, emotional and social functioning, motor abilities, communication and attention. It is ideal for families who are seeking a fuller understanding of their child’s strengths and any areas that may need extra support. The process includes parent questionnaires and a 1.5-2 hour in-person, play-based session with your child. Following the assessment, you will receive a comprehensive written report with clear explanations of the results and specific recommendations tailored to your child’s needs.

  • The Enriched Assessment

    provides a broad and personalized look at your child’s development across many areas, including thinking skills, emotional and social functioning, motor abilities, communication, attention, creativity, self-confidence, and responsibility. The process includes parent questionnaires, a 2-2.5 in-person session with your child, and interviews with both parents and educators to get a well-rounded understanding of your child’s strengths and needs. Afterwards, you will receive a comprehensive report along with a feedback session where we’ll discuss the results and recommendations to best support your child’s growth at home and in school.

    How long is the testing process?

    • The Standard Assessment includes about 1.0  hour to complete the parent questionnaires and an in-person session with your child lasting up to 1.5 hours.
    • The Comprehensive Assessment includes about 1.0 hour to complete the parent questionnaires  and an in-person session with your child lasting up to 1.5-2.0 hours.
    • The Enriched Assessment includes about 1.0 hour to complete the parent questionnaires, one in-person session with your child lasting up to 2-2.5 hours, a 30 minute virtual interview with parents, a 30 minute interview with educators, and a 1.0 hour virtual feedback session to present the report.

    What are the tests like?

    • There will first be questionnaires for you to complete. During the in-person session, your child will participate in a variety of playful and engaging tasks. Some tasks will involve talking and answering questions, story telling and others will involve drawing, playing with blocks, objects and looking at pictures. We may also be observing your child in their daycare setting, to see how they socialize with other children and how they deal with their emotions.

    What happens after all the tests are completed?

    • After the assessment session is finished, our team carefully reviews and scores all of the information gathered from both the parent questionnaires and the child’s activities. We analyze the results to better understand your child’s current strengths and any areas that may benefit from support. This information is then used to create a clear, family-friendly report that includes helpful recommendations to support your child’s development at home or in daycare.
    • This process can take up to 2-3 weeks. Once the report is ready, you will receive a digital copy through email. If you choose the enriched assessment, we will schedule a one-hour feedback session with you. During this meeting, we’ll go over the results, explain what they mean, and answer any questions you may have.

      Evaluation process

      • You will first be asked to complete a few questionnaires about your child’s development. Once we receive your responses, we will schedule an in-person visit to carry out the assessment at your child’s daycare.
      • During the visit, your child will meet the trained practitioner who will conduct the screening, along with any assistant(s) supporting the session. The assessment involves observations and a series of play-based activities—such as drawing, pointing to pictures, and building with blocks—designed to feel engaging and comfortable for young children. We take a flexible and supportive approach, offering encouragement and breaks as needed to help your child feel at ease.
      • After the assessment is complete, we will prepare a written report summarizing the results and share it with you.
